MY SHORT STORY - V
Destined To Be Together
“So when are we allowed to meet him?” Amy asked. “We will have to wait for one hour at least. ”Roger replied. “One hour is too much brother. I can’t wait to meet him.” Amy declared impatiently.
“My dear sister, we have waited for 21 yrs just for this moment, so can’t we wait for one last hour?” Roger tried to bridle her. She looked at the door from where he was going to come. “ You know Roger I'm so excited to see him. I've planned many things which we all will enjoy. We will click many photos with him and create a really lovely album to cherish the beautiful memories for our entire life. Roger looked at Amy , he could clearly see that she was longing to meet him. Even he was excited but was thinking something deeply. Amy glanced at him and instantly realized that her brother seemed to be lost. “ What's the matter brother? What are you thinking about?” she asked him. He looked at the door and back to her. Her big twinkling eyes surveyed Roger questioningly.
“ Are you sure Amy, we will be able to cope up with him?”, he asked. Amy smiled at her brother and replied, “ I'm sure we will brother. And I've met him in the park many times, apparently he is totally the person of our types”. They smiled at each other .
It was an hour already and finally he was coming . Their 21 yrs of waiting was finally coming to an end. Amy stood up in her place. Her eyes were welled up with happy tears. Roger held her hand and looked up at her. “Now what happened brother?” she exhaled sharply, weary of her brother's nervous questions . He got up from his place and asked her still holding her hand tightly, “ Sure about this? He can be really difficult at times”, and again looked at the door with full exhilaration. Amy let out a small laughter , “ Yes I'm sure and I know even you are certain about this." They hugged each other and laughed out gleefully. And finally he came, with the same happiness and same excitement as theirs.
The siblings were overjoyed to see the man in his late fifties coming to them. At last, after an hour of waiting for him outside the Old Age home, they had met him. Amy and Roger had grown up as orphans. If a childless couple can adopt a child and live their life happily, then parentless children can surely bring home a father. After all no one can understand the pain of the children in an orphanage better than the people staying in an old age home. So their on the verandah of the old age home the most eligible children had finally got a family of their own.
